The South Coast has it all, beautiful unspoilt sandy beaches, a plethora of watersports and some great places to eat. Here are a few of our favourite spots which we think are absolutely worth a visit.
West Wittering beach is just a 40 minute scenic drive from Haslemere and offers miles of stunning unspoilt sandy beach with breathtaking views of the Solent to the south and the picturesque South Downs to the north. At low tide when a quarter of a mile of sand is exposed it offers warm shallow lagoons which are perfect for children to splash around in along with sand dunes for running through and hiding.
Depending on conditions the sea is a playing field for watersport enthusiasts particularly popular with kite surfers, windsurfers and paddle boarders alike. In need of hiring kit or tuition this is also on offer at the beach and when in need of something to nibble there is a lovely beach café in the car park. Alternatively take your own picnic and set up camp between the sand dunes enjoying the panoramic views out to sea.
Bracklesham Bay is another of our favourite spots on the South Coast. Differing to West Wittering this is a predominantly shingle beach which becomes sandier towards the water’s edge. It is the perfect beach for a spot of fossil hunting and stone skimming! Out on the water it often offers great conditions for surfing and paddle boarding and like West Wittering there is a great place to both hire kit and tuition. You can’t visit here without popping in to Billy’s on the Beach for lunch or an early dinner, offering the freshest fish right on the water’s edge.
If you are looking for something a little different Bosham is a quaint costal village located next to Chichester harbour. Offering a vibrant but relaxed atmosphere it is the perfect place to spend a morning soaking up the scenic village and charming quayside. It is also great for Stand up paddle boarding with flat still waters and a great jetty to launch from. We also believe we have found the best crab sandwich on the South Coast here!
